We would like to apologize to all of you for the long quiet period since last year. We have been desperately waiting for the final decision of the Norwegian Environment Agency regarding the re-opening and seasonal rules for the 2025 season.
We are very happy to inform you that the Norwegian Environment Agency has decided on a regular, full season on the Gaula River (June 1 – August 31). All of the big rivers in the Trondheim Fjord, including the Gaula, will open for a full season but with restrictive rules about catch & release. All fish above 65cm must be released. We absolutely support the Norwegian Environment Agency, because this will protect the very important multi-sea winter fish and save a lot of big fish which will secure the coming spawning season this fall.
Over the winter we were able to find solutions for our fishermen booked in 2024 to return in 2025 and we are very happy to have received many new bookings even during the period of uncertainty over the last months. After some days of re-organizing, we have clarified our availability for this coming salmon season and have some rods available especially in the early weeks of June, and even in some rare openings in prime weeks and during the underrated August late season.
The snow situation looks good, and while the snowpack is not massive, therefore we would not anticipate a late run or extended high-water periods during June. There are even chances that some salmon will run the Gaulfossen very early this year.
Especially for those fishing for the big springers it might be a great year to come early and take the chance on those beautiful June-Gaula-salmon. On the other hand, the protection of the big salmon will also secure that during the months of July and August the pools should hold more big fish than in previous years.
The fishing pressure in general will be less due to the new rules which will most likely have a positive effect on our fishing throughout the season. So, we will cross our fingers that we get a good run of salmon and if that is the case we are looking ahead to a great season on NFC waters!
