There’s no denying that 2026 presented challenging conditions across Norway, with a light winter snowpack, warm summer temperatures, and minimal rainfall creating an unusually prolonged low-water season on the Gaula.

However, despite these technical conditions, we at the Norwegian Flyfishers Club enjoyed a remarkably rewarding summer. In particular, the addition of our strategic new beats in Lundamo and Melhus proved to be absolute game-changers—boosting our low-water performance and keeping our guests consistently on fish while many other fisheries struggled. Meanwhile, our core beats in the Støren area also performed brilliantly; Beat A2 in particular demonstrated just how exceptionally productive it can be, even in super-low water.

While big multi-sea-winter salmon were less frequent this year—partly due to a quieter overall MSW run and partly because low water held the larger fish back down in the fjord during July—the phenomenal grilse run provided dynamic sport, bended rods, and unforgettable moments on the riverbank.
