At the start of the season, we were all a bit concerned about what lay ahead. The key questions were: Would enough salmon return to the Gaula? And would the river remain open until the end of the season?

Now, six weeks into the 2025 season, we can confidently answer both: there’s a strong run of fish entering the river, and the Gaula will remain open until the end of the season (August 31, 2025)!

Although the first weeks of the season were challenging due to consistently high water levels and relatively low temperatures, we’re now pleased to see a strong run of salmon of all sizes entering the river. Also the research nets in the outer Trondheimfjord are confirming what we’ve been hoping for – a solid run of medium-sized salmon and an excellent number of grilse heading for the rivers.

With nearly 100 fish landed on the NFC beats so far, we’re eagerly looking forward to what the coming weeks will bring. One thing is certain: with the new fishing regulations in effect, the rest of the season promises to be both exciting and eventful. We’re confident that the reduced fishing pressure, combined with the mandatory release of all salmon over 65 cm, will lead to some thrilling weeks filled with some big fish in July and August.
